Miss Sunset Bay
As the reigning Miss Sunset Bay 2008, my third year in a row, I am blessed to represent one of the most romantic and aptly-named Sunset spots in the country. Throughout my travels this past year, I have come to realize that not everyone in our country has the opportunity to sit back on a piece of driftwood and take a few precious moments at the end of the day to appreciate the beauty surrounding us. This last year I embarked on a whirlwind tour of the United States, bringing my message of peace, love, and conservation of beaches throughout the country for the specific purpose of enhancing romance everywhere. From Alaska where the sun never sets in the summer, to Florida where I saw it rise (a new experience for this Sunset Bay girl); from Hawaii with its warm beaches to Michigan with its warm great lakes, I met people from every walk of life- those that enjoyed sunsets on a daily basis, and those that were not so fortunate. It left me with a great personal challenge: to spread the word about how great beaches are, and how important they are to our daily lives. Let's face it, beaches are romantic, albeit cliché, but we all know that sandy beach paths lead to one thing... Romance! With romance in our lives, people are happier, and are more inclined to work together. If every American had an opportunity to walk on a beach, especially at sunset with the one they love (by the way, I wholeheartedly support all walks on the beach- no matter the gender, race or species) I am certain that many of the world's ills would be solved; Polar ice caps would cease to melt, China would leave Tibet alone, George W Bush would be a distant memory and gas prices would plummet because we all drove hybrids, took mass transit or rode our bikes to our local farmer's markets. This past year has led me to adopt a new motto: Make Love on a beach, not War! Thank you for your support, and remember to watch a sunset on a beach near you!
